Peter “Peetah” Morgan, lead singer of three-time Grammy Award-winning reggae group Morgan Heritage, says the line-up of artistes on its 13th studio album promises to make the project even more memorable.

“The artiste selection was done by letting the music dictate who we thought would fit best on what song. It took a lot of time, but that was OK because we didn’t want to force just anyone on any particular song,” he told the Jamaica Observer’s Splash.

Titled The Homeland, the 21-track set will be released on April 21. It features Popcaan, Youssou N’Dour, Shaggy, Beenie Man, Shatta Wale, Mádé Kuti.

Morgan Heritage has already given fans a taste of the album with the release of the lead single Who Deh Like U featuring Bounty Killer, Cham and Stonebwoy, which debuted at number one on the US iTunes Afrobeat chart.

Peetah further said the project explores international music to give it a more holistic feel.

“What’s unique about the album is simple: it not just reggae or Jamaica… it’s global. It’s Africa, it’s Jamaica, it’s black music, it’s The Homeland,” he said.

Formed in 1994, Morgan Heritage are children of reggae singer Denroy Morgan, who passed away in March 2022.

As the trio eagerly awaits the album’s release date, they are already content with the level of support they have been receiving and is confident that it will be successful.

“To be honest, we’ve already achieved so much just by creating an album — a project that will last through the ages. It’s a body of work that will resonate with all generations; young and old,” he said.
