Last year, reggae artiste Kabaka Pyramid’s The Kalling won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album.

A deluxe edition of the award-winning album is scheduled for release and it will comprise remixes, dub versions and new collaborations.

In an interview with the Jamaica Observer on the weekend, Kabaka Pyramid shared details about the deluxe edition of The Kalling.

“We have a reggae remix of Believe featuring Rygin King, produced by Zilla (Damian Marley), as well as a hip hop remix of Stand Up by Genis T from Barcelona. There is also a reggaeton remix of Mr Rastaman by Maffio from Dominican Republic/Miami, and we also have a couple dub versions of Make Things Work and Mary Jane by Tippy Igrade from the US Virgin Islands,” Kabaka Pyramid shared.

Energy, one of the tracks from The Kalling and which features Jemere Morgan, has received the remix treatment with international recording artiste Sean Paul added to the mix. This was released on March 29 and it was produced by Damian “Jr Gong” Marley.

Kabaka Pyramid explained the decision to do a remix of Energy.

“Energy was always a song from the album that I really believed in but we didn’t get to single [release it as a single] it during the album run. So, it was on top of my list to have a remix done when we decided to do the deluxe version,” he said.

Asked about Sean Paul’s inclusion on the remix, Kabaka Pyramid said: “Zilla was the one who linked Sean Paul to drop a verse on the remix, then he recorded it when he was off the road in Jamaica. I wasn’t at the session, but we all loved what he did when we finally heard it.”

Kabaka Pyramid continued: “Shooting the video with him was a great vibe, though. It was the first time I really got to connect with one of my big influences from high school days.”

He also shared that he wanted to give more of the album to his fans, hence his reason to release a deluxe edition.

“After winning the Grammy we wanted to do something to give the album more life, so the deluxe was always the intention. We were always on the road touring last year so now we’re finally ready to give it to the world,” said Kabaka Pyramid.

Among the guests on The Kalling are Damian Marley, Tifa, Stephen Marley, Jesse Royal, Protoje, Buju Banton, Black-Am-I, Answele, and Nathalia.

The Kalling was released in September 2022 via Ghetto Youths International/Bebble Rock Music.
