Cordel ‘Skatta’ Burrell of Downsound Entertainment has given a clear commitment that Montego Bay will forever remain the home of Reggae Sumfest.

“We look forward to the festival’s continued growth and the deepening of our relationship with this wonderful community. Whenever the idea of moving the festival comes up, our response is always a resounding ‘no!’”  Burrell said.

“Montego Bay is, and always will be, the home of Reggae Sumfest,” he stressed.

He was speaking at the launch of the Reggae Sumfest 2024 at the Iberostar Hotel in St James on Thursday evening.

Reggae Sumfest 2024 will be staged in the tourist resort city from Sunday, July 14 to Saturday, July 20.

“The synergy between the community and the festival led to the official declaration of Montego Bay as Sumfest City for the month of July by the mayor of Montego Bay at last year’s launch,” Burrell said.

He added: “This was a moment of immense pride for the Reggae Sumfest team, solidifying our place as part of the Montego Bay family. We at Reggae Sumfest deeply care about Montego Bay, which is why we have two events during the festival week specifically for the community: the Reggae Sumfest Family Fun Day and the Street Dance. The Street Dance, held on Monday night, is free to the public and is our way of thanking the people for their warmth and hospitality.”

“The Family Fun Day kicks off the week with rides for kids at minimal cost and partnerships with local organisations to provide free health services like dental checks, health checks for school children, and various other health screenings. This event also provides a platform for local businesses to showcase their products and services,” Burrell noted.
