Actor and singer Quan Dajai says that the Bob Marley: One Love biopic being nominated for Best Movie in the 2024 BET Awards, is well- deserved.

Quan Dajai, who played the role of a young Bob Marley, told Observer Online that the film allowed fans a peek into the life of the reggae legend.

“I feel the nomination is well-deserved. Bob’s contribution to humanity should be appreciated, respected and celebrated, and the movie did the epic job of giving the world a chance to connect to the life and message of Bob.  I’m very proud to see the film do so well and excited to see it win,” Quan Dajai disclosed.

The other films nominated in the Best Movie category are American Fiction, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, The Book of Clarence, The Color Purple, The Equalizer 3, and The Little Mermaid.

The Paramount Pictures release Bob Marley: One Love which stars British actor Kingsley Ben-Adir as Marley and British actress Lashana Lynch as his wife Rita Marley, was directed by American Reinaldo Marcus Green.  Released globally on February 14, it topped the North American box office in its opening week and has grossed more than US$177 million worldwide. It is ranked as the ninth-highest grossing film of 2024 in the United States.

It continues its local run in Palace Amusement cinemas.

Quan Dajai says he is not surprised at the film’s success.

“Give unto Caesar what is to Caesar, Not surprised… aside from that Bob being a household name and one of the most noticeable faces in history. His music, passion and cause have been stitched into time as something that is special amongst its kin,” he said.
