Jamaican singer Lila Iké is featured on Falling or Flying, the sophomore album by British singer Jorja Smith.
The album was released on Friday, September 29 via FAMM Entertainment.
Lila collaborates on the song Greatest Gift.
In an interview with BET.com, Smith, whose father is Jamaican (her mother is British), spoke about working with Lila.
“In the beginning I had ideas of other people I wanted for certain songs, and then I finished the songs and didn’t need anyone on. But then things came back. J Hus came about naturally, he came down to the studio. DamDam [producer] played the song. I wasn’t gonna play in the song, they played it and then he went straight in the booth, and then Lila Iké — I always thought about her being on that song — I sent it to her, and she was down. Then she came to the UK. It’s great making friends when you do music too. So that was a gift, and it was her birthday as well, and it’s called Greatest Gift. So it was perfect,” said Jorja.
British rapper J Hus, who has recorded songs with Koffee and Popcaan, appears on the track Feelings.
The 16-track Falling or Flying is the follow-up to Smith’s critically acclaimed BPI-certified gold album Lost and Found, which peaked at #3 on the UK Albums chart in 2018.
Smith won the Brit Award (Britain’s equivalent to the Grammys) in 2019 for Best British Female.
She was nominated for a Grammy in the Best New Artiste category that same year.
Smith has collaborated with other Jamaicans in the past.
Come Over, which features Popcaan, peaked at #35 on the UK Singles chart in 2020, while making it to #89 in Belgium, #94 in France, #82 in Ireland, and #22 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart.
In 2016 she collaborated with reggae artiste Dre Island on People, which also featured Cadenza.
