After he recovered from a motor vehicle accident three years ago in which he received minor injuries, producer Jahvel “Jahvy” Morrison decided to release the Soul Survivor rhythm.
This rhythm created waves upon its release and, just last week, Gal Policy by Kranium, one of the songs featured on the project, was certified silver in the United Kingdom by the British Phonographic Industry.
The certification was issued after the song sold more than 200,000 units.
Morrison, whose label Tru Ambassador released the Soul Survivor rhythm, is elated at the accomplishment.
“The track has always been doing great; though I wasn’t surprised at the certification. It was still an overwhelming feeling of gratitude when I heard the news from Kranium’s team,” Morrison shared in an interview with the Jamaica Observer on Friday.
Morrison explained how the collaboration with Kranium came about.
“Kranium has always been an artiste I’ve wanted to work with, so I was pleased at the opportunity when he recorded on the track. He’s a great dancehall artiste with international appeal and his melodies stand out,” said Morrison.
Asked what the certification meant to him as the producer of the Gal Policy single, Morrison said, “It’s a global expression and an amazing accolade so it means a lot to now be amongst an elite group of producers.”
According to Morrison, the Soul Survivor rhythm, which also has songs by Jahmiel, Mavado and Alkaline, is of significance to him.
“When it was released three years ago, the public’s reaction was amazing. This is a project I hold dear to me because of its sentiments. I made the rhythm shortly after I was in an awful car accident and after having a conversation with Alkaline,” Morrison explained.
Morrison has produced a string of hits through the years including Alkaline’s Ocean Wave and Elite, Gyal Thief, Journey, and Imperfection by 450.
