Songwriter, producer and recording artiste Chris Marshall says when he co-wrote the song Temperature, which was recorded by Sean Paul, he had no idea that it would have become a massive hit globally.

Temperature received The BRIT Certified double platinum certification on Friday, September 22 by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).

The certification commemorated 1.2 million units in sales and streaming.

“I wasn’t surprised the song was a local hit, because the Applause rhythm was already a hit before the song was recorded. However, I would never have imagined the rest of the world would accept it as much as they have done. How I handled the success, it was easy because there was no spotlight on me. I live a simple life, and only my close friends, family and people from my small community knew I worked on the song,” Marshall disclosed in an interview with the Jamaica Observer on Wednesday.

Marshall (real name Adrian Marshall) is originally from the community of Linstead in St Catherine. A former student at the McGrath High and St Mary’s High schools, he said that several opportunities came his way in the wake of the success of Temperature.

“When you do something great in the music industry it’s a show of credibility. That credibility created more opportunities to work on more records,” he shared.

Temperature was top 10 hit in Canada, Switzerland, France, Netherlands, Australia, Belgium, and Denmark. It peaked at #11 in the United Kingdom and topped the Billboard Hot 100 for one week, while spending 17 weeks inside the Top 10. The song was also a hit on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs, R&B/Hip-hop Songs, Rap Songs and Rhythmic Top 40 charts.

It was previously certified 3x platinum in the United States and Canada, and gold in Australia, Denmark, Italy, Japan and Switzerland.

Marshall has written songs for Beenie Man (Heart Attack), J Quiles, Dalex, American R&B singer Trey Songz, Puerto Rican singer Rauw Alejandro, and Farina, just to name a few.

He has recorded collaborations with Dalex (Prendia) and Latin singer Anitta (Tu Y Yo), Kizz Daniel, Stonebwoy, Alex Rose, and Dalcyon.

Said Marshall: “Continuous work and collaborations create connections. One such connection is talented Panamanian producer Dimeloflo. That connection allowed me to access the Latin labels and markets.”

Marshall recently released an album titled Audio Therapy. He describes it as a mixture of dancehall fused with other genres.
