The 14-track album Peace Is The Mission by Major Lazer was on Friday, July 5, certified gold in the United Kingdom.

Issued by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), the certification commemorated sales and streaming to the equivalent of 100,000 units.

The project features collaborations with Jamaicans Chronixx (Blaze Up the Fire), Jovi Rockwell (Too Original featuring Elliphant), Tarrus Riley (Powerful featuring Ellie Goulding), Mad Cobra (Night Riders featuring Travis Scott, Pusha T and 2 Chainz), and Kranium (Boom featuring MOTi, Ty Dolla $ign, and Wizkid).

Peace Is The Mission is the group’s third studio album and was released in June 2015.

Major Lazer comprises American DJ Diplo, Mexican-American DJ Ape Drums, and Jamaican Walshy Fire. Previous members are English DJ Switch and Trinidadian Jillionaire.

In an interview with the Jamaica Observer on Friday, Tarrus Riley, who collaborated with Goulding on the global hit Powerful, recalled working with Major Lazer on the project.

“It was a great thing, man. Wi haffi big up mi manager, Shane Brown. The vibe was neutral and real quick. We recorded the song while I was in-transit in Miami and going on tour. It was good vibes,” he said.

Powerful became Riley’s sole Billboard Hot 100 entry, peaking at #83. The song was also successful in Europe, making its way onto 15 charts. It also peaked at #54 in the UK and #64 in Canada.

The song has been certified gold in the US, New Zealand, and in Denmark, 2x platinum in Australia, and silver in the UK.

Singer Nyla, formerly of Brick and Lace, is featured on the hit single Light It Up (remix) with Fuse ODG, which is included on Peace is the Mission.

She told the Jamaica Observer that the success of Light It Up was never expected.

“I was just happy to be a part of the album. I didn’t foresee or know that Light It Up was gonna be a single or be as big as it did. I was a fan of Major Lazer’s music way before their Peace Is The Mission album. I am ecstatic and grateful that Light It Up did what it did and that history was created. [Major Lazer] are a really talented bunch of guys and they take the music, especially the music out of Jamaica, and curate it in a way that can appeal to a global market,” Nyla shared.

Light It Up (remix) was a huge hit in Europe and topped Billboard’s US Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart. It was a top 10 hit in 22 countries and topped the chart in France.

The song has been certified 2x platinum in the US, Belgium, and Denmark, as well as racking up 3x platinum certification in Spain. It also registered platinum sales in Portugal and New Zealand and gold in Australia and Austria.

Other Jamaican acts that Major Lazer has worked with through the years include Suku Ward, Mystic, Sean Kingston, Sean Paul, Shaggy, Timberlee, Ricky Blaze, Leftside, Supa Hype, and Busy Signal (on the hit Watch Out For This).

They also collaborated with Mr Lexx on Hold The Line featuring Santigold, which was nominated for an MTV Video Music Award. Pon De Floor, featuring Vybz Kartel, scaled Billboard’s Dance Music Club Play chart.

The album Peace Is The Mission was previously certified gold in the US, Sweden, Norway and Italy. In Denmark it was certified 2x platinum while in France it has been certified platinum.
