Dancehall artiste Teejay has high expectations for his debut EP I Am Chippy set for release on February 2.
“I’m always about music, so I just want you to know that this project is going to be a firing project and it also shows unity… It’s going to show a lot of growth in in my career. I’m just hoping for greatness and I hope everybody enjoys the greatness,” the deejay whose given name is Timoy Jones told the Jamaica Observer.
The project has industry giant Shaggy as executive producer.
It features collaborations from Tommy Lee Sparta, Bayka, Malie Donn, Davido, Quada, Star and Skillibeng.
The St James native said he carefully chose his collaborators who were more than happy to be part of the EP.
“I just reached out to them and respect goes where it comes from. We just worked together and created a vibe,” he said, adding that the entirety of the project was several years in the making.
He further said that his 11-year-old son made an appearance on a track titled
Star, which makes it his favourite from the bunch.
“Mi cyaan stop him; the DNA just strong suh,” the deejay said proudly.
Teejay came to prominence in 2018. Among his other hits are Owna Lane, Up Top Boss, Henne and Weed, From Rags to Richies, and
Last June, he signed publishing and record deals with Warner Music Group and Warner Records.
He will be one of the panellists at this year’s Island Music Conference [IMC] in Kingston next month.
The artiste also said that he has other work to he released after his EP has its reign.
Teejay is imploring fans to show their support.
“I have a lot of projects. I have the deluxe version coming out after the EP and [I] also have an album coming… The album is finished already because you know my work ethic is different; I always like to work ahead of time. For now, I would love to tell everyone to go and pre-order the EP,” he told the Observer.
